Gigabyte and ThermalTake Sponsor LANapalooza 5
Anonymous writes "Zero PING Events would like to thank both Gigabyte and ThermalTake, each are sponsoring the upcoming LANapalooza 5 this July. Please take some time to check out their various excellent products!
Also, the tournaments section has been updated now to include the various games that we'll be having cash tournaments for. Please get your teams signed up when you have a moment. More details for each tournament will be posted soon, but for now you're at least able to sign up. We will be using rules based on CEVO for the Counterstrike 1.6 and Source tournaments. Quake 3 Rocket Arena 3 will be a 1 vs 1 double elimination tournament.
Round robins will start on Friday at 6pm for all three of the cash tournaments. More cash tournaments will be added provided there is sufficient interest shown. "

LANapalooza 5
Well it's been a little while now since the last update, we've been getting things ready for the next event this coming July 24th. The prepayment discount for past attendees has passed, you can still get in with a discount to the next event however. Currently if you prepay before July 1st it will only cost you $30 to get in to the LAN. Otherwise the entrance fee will be $40 at the door.
Although not sorted we have demos from the last event posted. We have yet had the time to sort through all the Source demos but they're all there for download. Will be changing the process next time for Source so that demos get named appropriately as they're recorded.
We're on the lookout for more volunteers for the LAN's as we need more people to help improve the events. Please let us know if you'd be able to help at all with the upcoming LAN, mainly we're looking for people who are not coming to actually compete in either the CS 1.6 or Source tournaments who'd be able to help administrate the tournaments with us.
We purchased a lot of new equipment for the last event (mainly power equipment) and as such our operating costs have gone down so we've passed the savings on in the form of reduced door fees. We've not fully paid the equipment off yet, so for further events after LANapalooza 5 we'll be able to reduce the door fees even further.
Look forward to seeing you all again in July!

Post-Event Action
So after taking some time to recover from the last event we'll be taking some time to organize all the pictures and demos from the LAN. If anyone has any pictures they have taken at the event that they'd like to submit to be posted please email them to us. Once we've compiled all the demos and the pictures from the event we'll get an after action report posted. We'd like to thank all our generous sponsors for the prizes they were able to donate to the event for our attendees.
Also, we've got another event coming up very soon. July 24th 2009 we'll be holding another LAN similar the one this past May 8th (some minor changes have been made). This event we've been able to reduce our prices for our entrance fee due to the acquisition of more equipment, thus we're passing the savings on! Attendees of the past LAN will be able to get into this event for only $20 (this option ends on June 1st so take advantage while you can), otherwise there is a $30 prepayment option which comes to an end on July 1st and finally at the door it will be $40. The tournament entry fees are still the same for Counterstrike 1.6 and Source.
More information and the after-action report for LANapalooza 2009 to come shortly!

Prepayment Now Closed
So the prepayment option for LANapalooza 2009 has come to an end. All remaining unpaid attendees must now pay the full entrance fee price at the door in cash ($50). Thanks for those who prepaid.
At this point we will not be able to issue refunds for the LAN. If anyone who has paid is for some uncontrollable circumstances unable to make it to the event we will issue a credit towards the next LAN we will be having.

4 Day Update
So we're 1 signup away from hitting 300. For those who are worried about not getting a spot don't worry, we've managed to procure some additional power capacity and should not have any problems finding a space for you. Please ensure you make your entrance fee payments as soon as possible. Tomorrow night is the deadline for payments to be received, they need to be in no later than 10pm. After that the online prepayment option will be closed and you will need to pay cash at the event.
We've got 26 teams for Counterstrike 1.6 currently which means $2100/$1050/$525 for 1st/2nd/3rd. Source is not far behind at 22 teams meaning $1800/$900/$450 will be up for grabs. Keep in mind as our cash tournaments are based on cash pots the prize money will change depending on the # of teams. Things are shaping up nicely for some excellent competition. SourceTV/HLTV will be running to broadcast the matches live to those who want to watch.
If you have any questions about the event please email info@zeropingevents.com.

Further Updates
As the number of teams keeps increasing I've put a new block on the right with the current prizes based on the number of signed up teams for each of the cash tournaments. We had an initial limit of 24 teams per tournament but due to the large increase in interest we're going to remove that limit so that more teams can have a chance to compete.
If we have sufficient interest at the event we'll do a non-cash L4D tournament for PC (I believe console is definitely having an L4D tournament, so not sure what went wrong on the PC side... oh well). As there was no interest in a cash tournament (no teams signed up) it was removed earlier this month.
We've added a lot of new equipment this year (at a rather heavy cost, but no risk no LAN!) including a brand new 3-phase 200amp power panel (complete with sub panels and feeder cable), high-strength cable protectors from Cable Organizer, four 48-port ethernet patch panels and curtains (to help keep screen looking at bay). Myself and others have been slaving away to get all this stuff built in time for the event over the past few months.
To complement the usual selection of Bawls, Pop, Chips, Candy bars and Pizza we'll be getting some healthier food from a local catering company so those of you who can't survive on junk food (I know I'm one of them) have more options for food at the event. Nothing too fancy, so far we were thinking bagels/yogurt/fruit/etc for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and lasagna/salad for dinner.
Currently we're at 252 signups for the event and our projections indicate we should hit 300 signups possibly before the end of the month. If the event does sell out we will reserve your seating if you prepay for your spot. We will reserve spaces for teams as-is (typically we just block off 5 seats in groups. Teams who prepay will be assigned prime seating (close to admin area/stage/snack bar). Those who have pre-paid that do not show up by 10am on Saturday morning without making prior arrangements with us may have their spot given away to someone else who is there and wants to play. So if you know you're going to be late let us know either by email to info@zeropingevents.com or give us a call at 905.395.0495. This is to ensure that if someone is there and able to play that an otherwise unused seat does not go to waste.
There's only 18 days to go now so if you haven't done so already get signed up and pre-paid to reserve your spot. This is shaping up to be our best event yet, don't miss out!

LAN Updates
We're pleased to let you know that as the LAN is getting close everything is going well with the preparations for the event. At the time of writing we currently have 17 teams registered for Counterstrike 1.6 and 16 teams for Counterstrike Source. This puts the prizes for these at $1400/$700/$350 for 1st/2nd/3rd in 1.6 and $1300/$650/$325 for 1st/2nd/3rd in Source, the more teams we get the more this keeps increasing. Please note for the Counterstrike Source tournament we have added Train to the map cycle.
Currently there are 212 signups on the website so we have less than 100 seats left available, you can reserve you spot by pre-paying. Keep in mind however for PC gamers the $35 pre-payment is going to increase to $40 on April 17th, the $40 pre-payment window ends on May 5th. After this you will have to pay $50 at the door. For console gamers there is no pre-payment required, just $20 at the door to get in.
We've been very busy preparing for the event. Lots of equipment including a new power panel, many ethernet patch panels and a series of curtains (to prevent screen looking issues) is being assembled for the event. Many servers have been prepared (so far enough to fill one 48U rack, two once we're finished) with the help of some friends of ours at Neutral Data Centers.
A little bit of disappointing news, it looks like we may end up not running a Left 4 Dead tournament due to complete lack of interestlol (no teams have signed up for it yet at all). Otherwise all the other cash tournaments will be running based on the existing number of signed up teams with the exception of Team Fortress 2. We still need one more team to run this tournament.
Our current projections for our signups show that if the trend continues or even weakens we shall easily exceed or meet the 300 player maximum for the event. As such I suggest you get signed up and prepaid as soon as possible to guarantee yourself a spot at the LAN and take advantage of the pre-payment discounts.
